The heritage of India
India – colorful and vibrant, a land as diverse, its people. A mosaic of faiths, cultures, customs and languages that blend harmoniously to form a composite whole. One of the world’s oldest living civilizations – which gave to the world, the concept of zero, the primordial sound Om …… Yoga and Buddhism.
The roots of Indian civilization stretch back in time to pre recorded history. The earliest human activity in the Indian sub-continent can be tracked back to the early, middle and late stone ages through 400,000 – 200,000 BC. Throughout its history armies, traders, and immigrants from all over the world have invaded India. India’s heritage is like a rainbow of multiple facets like performing arts, crafts, religion, customs, traditions, beliefs, philosophy, history, health, medicines, travel, cuisine, monuments, literature, painting and languages. Each one of these heritages of India reflects the influence of prevailing cultures. These were the cultures primarily taken birth from the amalgamation of migrating cultures with the Indian ones. Nevertheless today its medical scientific and philosophical heritage has made a mark of its own in the world.
Traditional health and medicines of India have their roots in the ancient treatise like Ayurveda, Charak sanhita, and the experiments done by ancient Indian aimed at curing people from different disease, they were also aimed at clearing your body, diseases and mind. In fact, these systems give protection than the cure. Traditional health sciences of different parts of India mainly originate from Ayurvedic systems of medicines. Another important way of keeping your body and soul fit was Yoga, practiced by the great souls of ancient India.
The cultural divisions of India proper have always been determined and dominated by the great river systems, the watersheds of the Indus and Ganges, the Deccan plateau and the south India. Climate no less than geography has played its part in the development of the peculiarly indigenous traits of Indian history and art. All the races of martial character have grown up in the dry and hilly districts of north, west and centre, whereas the fertile plains of Bengal and south have been in habited peaceful and like cultivators. In India, all art, like all life, is given over to region. Indian art is life as interpreted by religion and philosophy.
Indian art may, in a general way, be described as theological, hieratic or perhaps best of all as traditional. The purpose of Indian art, like all traditional art, is primarily to instruct men in the great first cause, which according to the seers, govern the communicating these great truths to mankind reconstruction of the powers that maintain the stars in their courses.
At last I only want to say that –
`` if there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India …. ‘’
